Cars in German Town Found Marked with Nazi Symbols in Blood, Police Confirm

Officers reported they were contacted by a resident who discovered a car in Hanau smeared with red-colored fluid

Approximately fifty cars have been smeared with what seems to be blood from a person in the German municipality of Hanau near Frankfurt, as reported by authorities.

Cars, exterior walls and postboxes were marked, occasionally with prohibited symbols, they reported in a release.

Police report they were contacted in the late hours on Wednesday, when a individual noticed that a car in the Lamboy district of Hanau had been smeared with a red-colored liquid.

The liquid had been drawn in the pattern of a swastika, they added.

Law enforcement then found multiple other smeared automobiles and residential walls in the nearby vicinity.

Swastikas are banned in Germany under legislation banning the visible presentation of symbols from the Nazi era.

Police report initial examinations show the substance was most likely human bodily fluid.

"Currently there is no indication as to where it came from; authorities are not yet aware of any injuries in relation with the occurrence," they commented.

Municipal representatives announced they were trying "to resolve the mystery" and have requested to the community for details.

A senior representative said the vandalism left him without words and needed to be solved rapidly.

"This incident strikes at the core of Hanau and revives the trauma of the right-wing attack half a decade ago," he stated on online, mentioning the death of nine victims by a gunman targeting residents of foreign heritage in February 2020.
