It's difficult for Australia to break new ground.

The highest peaks have been successfully scaled.

We're talking about the squad that has won seven Cricket World Cups, plus another six T20 titles, and once went over three years without defeat in 50-over cricket.

The secondary achievements, targeted by the record chasers, are what's still available for a squad that has accomplished all there is.

The fact it required as late as Sunday's three-wicket win over India for them to complete their first ODI chase over 300, taking back their record for the largest in the women's 50-over format, is, in truth, a tribute to the pitchers that have represented Australia over the last half-century.

It's difficult for their batsmen to possess a record if not afforded the chance.

Finally, the result of Australia conceding 330 was skipper Alyssa Healy being given an opportunity to produce her latest masterpiece.

Then best known as the young family member of celebrated previous Aussie wicketkeeper Ian, she debuted in 2010 after Australia failed to win either of the T20 or ODI World Cups held the previous year and has witnessed all through 15 trophy-laden years since.

A T20 championship victory happened three months after her debut and seven world titles have followed from 10 attempts across formats.

The tough gloveman was in attendance in Derby in 2017 when a semi-final defeat by India momentarily interrupted the run of success.

That loss "drove us to reevaluate our levels," Healy said this week.

At the following one-day championship in New Zealand, Healy made 170 against England in the title decider and was declared player of the series. She ensured her country would not fall short again.

The question of whether this latest epic knock exceeded that prior achievement is debatable.

Many contend the case for championship match pressure. Different voices suggest with the challenge that comes when pursuing an unprecedented total and a raucous India-supporting crowd of 20,000.

What's definite is this century was considerably tougher to predict.

The New Zealand onslaught in 2022 came as she was the highest scorer, but this knock came after six matches in India over the past few weeks in which she had failed to pass 30.

"If you've been watching me in training, it was a challenging time because it appeared I lacked timing at all," commented Healy.

"However when you take the field, your competitive instincts take over and you completely engage with the competition."

Healy's competitive nature has continuously been her key asset - and an irreplaceable characteristic in replacing iconic ex-skipper Meg Lanning.

She was challenged by India's emerging talent Kranti Gaud in last month's ODI series, dismissed by the emerging pace bowler in each encounter, but this time it merely gave Healy's motivation.

One run resulted off the opening delivery and after that the right-hander was in motion.

"An opportunity to play and lock in a contest with her and just have a bit of fun that way, sort of got me going," stated Healy.

She got to fifty in 35 deliveries - her fastest at the World Cup - and her ton in 84 as she punished short deliveries, striking 21 boundaries and three big hits.

By the time she was dismissed Australia needed 66 more at one run per ball - an achievable target now demanding an easy conclusion.

"Pursuing 330 is new territory so I'm pleased we have the belief to achieve that now," stated Healy further.

"Preferably we shouldn't have to repeat it but, if necessary, we are confident we can do it."

These statements will be the ultimate thing Australia's opponents at this World Cup should hear.

During the last week a belief they will triumph from any situation has become more firm - this victory following victory over Pakistan by 107 run margin despite struggling at 76-7 at one point.

Next Australia play Bangladesh before a meeting with traditional opponents England in Indore in 10 days, by which point a semi-final place may probably be guaranteed.

It was in the semi-finals they exited last year's T20 World Cup in a shock defeat by South Africa - an encounter Healy was absent due to torn tissue in her foot as she guided Australia for the initial instance at an important competition.

So strong is her resolve, she subsequently stated she regretted not playing through the pain.

Yet even as she later admitted those fitness problems have pushed back consideration of ending her career, this tournament is anticipated as her last as captain in ODI cricket and she is yet to win a global event as skipper.

Triumph in India would bring her to the top of her ultimate challenge.
